Welcome to NY-CHAPPA, the Community Health and Air Pollution Policy Assessment tool. NY-CHAPPA can be used to analyze the air quality and public health impacts of changes in air pollutant emissions, such as from proposed energy and environmental policies in New York State. NY-CHAPPA models changes in fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations, changes in health outcomes, and the monetized value of those outcomes in each of eight New York regions shown below. The results are presented at a highly resolved census tract resolution, which allows users to determine the fraction of health benefits accruing to disadvantaged communities, using the definitions from New York's Climate Justice Working Group.
NY-CHAPPA was developed by the Institute for the Environment (IE) at UNC-Chapel Hill and Abt Global with support from NYSERDA.
